The IMPC wishes to pay tribute to deceased colleagues who played significant roles in the affairs of the IMPC, its Council and its Congresses as well as people who enjoyed major international reputations in Mineral Processing. Thanks to the kind offer of Dr Barry Wills, of MEI, UK, we will feature here hyperlinks to that section of MEI Online where such tributes are published from time to time.

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Nat Arbiter, Professor Emeritus of Columbia University, New York, USA. Prof. Arbiter died only 8 days after it was announced in Beijing that he had been awarded the prestigious IMPC Council Award, for his outstanding and noteworthy contributions to the activities of the Council and its various activities.

At the time of the launch of the website we also wish to pay special tribute to Professor Peter King who died in 2006.

It is with great sadness that we record the death of Prof. Peter King, who passed away on September 11th 2006 after a long illness. Our thoughts are with his wife Ellen and family.

Peter was Professor of Metallurgical Engineering at the University of Utah for 17 years, and prior to that was Professor of Metallurgy at Wits University, South Africa. He made major contributions to flotation modelling and liberation analysis, was the author of a number of books and until recently was the editor of International Journal of Mineral Processing.

Only two years ago he was awarded mineral processing's highest honour, the Lifetime Achievement Award of the IMPC, at the XXIIth IMPC in Cape Town
